TEA awards

The Teaching Excellence Awards program honors recipients who are leading ambassadors for education in communities across North America. The program does not administer a nomination or selection process. Instead, TEA recipients are recognized through a number of existing national, state, provincial and educational agency award programs.

The 2 existing awards programs currently sponsored by TEA are as follows.

U.S. State and National Teacher of the Year awards

2012 Teacher of the Year Awards

The U.S. State Teacher of the Year (STOY) programs are independently administered by each individual state's department for education or educational agency. The TEA program sponsors STOY by contributing educational technology products to recognized state honorees. A TEA technology classroom is presented to each State Teacher of the Year. In addition, the TEA program presents STOY finalists with a technology award for their classrooms.

Each STOY is automatically nominated for the National Teacher of the Year (NTOY) award, with that program administered by the Council of Chief State School Officers. The TEA program provides national nominees with product training and various professional development opportunities during events held in conjunction with the National Teacher of the Year program. You can find supplementary information on how the TEA program honors State Teachers of the Year on our TEA yearbook.

Details on how to nominate an individual or apply for a STOY award are available from your state's educational agency.

Alberta Excellence in Teaching awards

Alberta

The Excellence in Teaching award program is administered by Alberta Education and recognizes outstanding Alberta teachers. As part of the program, 3 teachers are selected each year to receive an Innovative Use of Technology award. Recipients of this award are presented with a TEA technology classroom. In addition, 20 Excellence in Teaching award recipients receive a technology award for their classrooms.

The TEA program began sponsoring the Excellence in Teaching awards in 2003. Of the 23 award recipients selected that year, 1 teacher was selected to receive an Innovative Use of Technology award. In 2004, the program expanded its sponsorship to include 3 recipients. See how the TEA program honors Alberta's teachers by visiting our TEA yearbook.
