World’s most popular interactive whiteboard software offers more resources and new features
CALGARY, ALBERTA --- May 29, 2007 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces that SMART Board™ software 9.7 for Windows®, Mac OS and Linux® operating systems is now available. The newest version of SMART Board software offers teachers more digital resources and a number of user-friendly new features. Enhancements to the world's most widely used interactive whiteboard software make it easier for educators to create and manage all their digital learning materials within one easy-to-use content platform. SMART Board software adds features that refine users' whiteboarding experience and improve system administration. Version 9.7 supports more languages than any other interactive whiteboard software on the market including 4 languages in Mac OS, 9 languages in Linux and 36 languages in Windows operating systems. A vertical text flow feature is also available to support Asian language text.
Notebook™ software, the lesson creation and delivery application within SMART Board software, offers a variety of new features and resources. Dual Page Display allows teachers to show two Notebook pages simultaneously and to draw, make notes, import files and add links to either page. New print options let teachers print a Notebook page in full screen mode without borders. Team Content provides access to Gallery content that can be shared on a network. New learning objects have been added to the Gallery, including astronomy images and physics simulations from NASA, as well as new videos that can be easily embedded into interactive lessons. Adobe® Flash® content from Daydream Education® and Intel® skoool™ education technology allows teachers to enhance lessons with animated activities. Improved text recognition offers support for East Asian languages in the Windows Vista™ and Windows XP operating systems, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Version 9.7 gives system administrators more guidance on installing the software, and optimizing system monitoring and remote diagnostics.

Features
Dual Page Display – Displays two Notebook pages on the screen simultaneously, allowing teachers to draw, make notes, import files and add links to either page. Pin a page to keep it visible while clicking on other pages in the page sorter tab.
Greater Team Content access – Connects users to Gallery content on a shared network drive. Depending on permission level, users can access, add or delete items from Team Content folders without the help of a network administrator. Team Content facilitates users across a school or district to share files and access them from a central network directly within Notebook.
Support for the Windows Vista operating system – Ink Aware is available for Adobe Acrobat® and Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint software 2007. Also includes text recognition for East Asian languages in the Windows Vista and XP operating systems, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
New Gallery images – Includes images from the Bridgeman Art Library, NASA, the U.S. National Archives and the Canadian National Archives.
Flash interactivities – Includes animation from 2Simple, Daydream Education and Intel skoool education technology. Also includes new compass, double dice and ten-sided dice animations.
AirLiner™ wireless slate – From the control panel on the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, users can select and print from six underlay templates or customize and create their own. Users can also customize buttons on the icon strip and block one or more AirLiner wireless slates from communicating with the connected computer.
Flash video – Includes Digital Video Library clips in art and design, geography and history.
Vertical text flow – Allows Asian text to flow vertically in the Windows operating system.
Language support – Support for 36 languages in Windows operating system, including the most recent additions of Polish, Greek, Scottish-Gaelic, Hebrew and Hindi. Also supports 4 languages for Mac OS and 9 languages for Linux operating system.
System Administrators Guide and Install – Deploys SMART Board software 9.7 in a workgroup, computer lab or full institution environment using Windows operating system install. The guide includes information on imaging or remote management tools to further automate the installation process.
Improved issue reporting – Allows users to send detailed log information to SMART to help diagnose and correct any software issues.
