SMART products support Intel’s professional development program

MOSCOW, RUSSIA --- April 26, 2007 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the donation of 25 SMART Board™ 680 interactive whiteboards and Notebook™ collaborative learning software to the Intel® Teach program in Russia. The donation was officially announced today at the Intel sponsored conference, Web 2.0 for Education and Science in Moscow. SMART awards products on an ongoing basis to education institutions participating in the program. To date, SMART has donated more than US$350,000 in products to Intel Teach worldwide as part of its continuing commitment to support the effective integration of technology in everyday teaching and learning.

Intel Teach is a free professional development program for K–12 in-service and pre-service educators. Since 2002, Intel has trained over 370,000 teachers in Russia at 121 Intel Teach regional training centers. Participants learn from other educators about how, when and where to incorporate technology tools and resources into the curriculum. World wide, over 4,000,000 teachers in 51 countries have successfully completed the program.

“It is clear that SMART has a strong commitment to teachers and students,” says Yaroslav Bikhovsky, Intel Teach country manager in Russia. “Intel Teach trainers in Russia use SMART Board interactive whiteboards during the professional development course to promote teamwork and participation. These tools provide opportunities for teachers and students to explore the latest collaborative environments for the classroom.”

“Training aimed at the effective use of SMART Board interactive whiteboards and other hardware and software products in the classroom is vital,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “The Intel Teach program provides teachers with the professional development they need to ensure students get the most from their learning.”
