Program identifies leading schools that will share classroom technology best practices
CALGARY, Alberta --- April 10, 2007 --- SMART Technologies Inc. names 22 schools and one district to its SMART Showcase School Program. Showcase Schools and districts are leaders in the adoption and use of technology that improves student outcomes and teacher effectiveness. These schools are also enthusiastic about sharing their success stories and regularly make themselves available to other educators and district stakeholders interested in learning how SMART products can be used to enhance teaching and learning. These schools welcome educators across the world to visit them and see how they apply best practices for using technology products to improve student performance.
The SMART Showcase School Program comprises schools that use classroom technology in outstanding ways. The schools have also become resources for other educators who want to learn more about the benefits of implementing SMART products in the classroom. Participation in the program is by invitation only. SMART hand selects schools with demonstrated commitments to creating 21st-century learning environments. Visitors to a Showcase School can expect to see how SMART products are being used to engage students and enhance lessons every day. The SMART Showcase Schools Program is currently operating in the United States and Canada, and plans are in place to expand to other countries in the near future.
“Students love interacting with the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and are motivated to work on all skills, even those that would otherwise be boring for them, and the teachers feel that the technology has revolutionized their teaching,” says Lilli Land, principal at Auburn Early Education Center. “Many educators have visited our school to look at our curriculum, and we leave them with a desire to implement SMART Board interactive whiteboards into their classroom instruction.”
“The SMART Showcase School Program was established to recognize leading schools for their creativity and commitment to the effective implementation of technology in the classroom,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “These schools are leaders in this regard, and they are making a significant contribution to other educators' understanding of technology use in classrooms across North America.”
