Network offers resources and support for creating interactive applications for SMART products
Calgary, Alberta --- January 10, 2007 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the launch of the SMART Development Network to provide more tools and technical support to commercial and noncommercial multimedia content and software developers. The network will help developers create products designed for use with SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards and Notebook™ software. SMART is raising its level of developer support to meet growing customer demand for integrated interactive content and software. Greater developer support means educators will have access to more lesson activities and resources specifically created for use with SMART products. Students will benefit from multimedia content and innovative applications that will make the digital learning experience even more engaging.
The SMART Development Network offers a suite of four tools: SMART Board software developer kit (SDK), Notebook Software Gallery Packager, a new SDK for Adobe® Flash®, and comprehensive documentation and support.
SMART Board SDK
The SMART Board SDK includes a SMART feature called Ink Aware, which allows pen tray integration with third-party software. When working with optimized software featuring a writing or pen tool, picking up a pen from the SMART pen tray will activate the software’s native writing tool. Ink Aware allows users to write and draw directly into an active file.
Notebook Software Gallery Packager
Notebook Software Gallery Packager allows users to quickly import, organize, tag and format content into Notebook Gallery folders. Educators can easily add new learning objects to the Gallery for use in generating and delivering lesson activities in Notebook.
SDK for Adobe Flash
A new beta development kit for Flash provides access to drag-and-drop capabilities between Flash objects and other specialized touch features. Developers can test and debug content. A built-in, stand-alone media player allows SDK-enabled Flash content to run as a desktop application.
Documentation and support
Developers have access to additional documentation, technical support and product upgrade information to ensure compatibility with future versions of SMART Board software. Users working with C++, C#, VB and Java-based applications have access to numerous tools and resources in order to create content and applications for Windows, Mac OS and Linux operating systems.

Pricing and availability
SMART welcomes both commercial and non-commercial developers to join the SMART Development Network. Commercial developers in the United States and Canada can join for an annual fee of US$3,000. Noncommercial developers (educators, researchers and not-for-profit organizations) can access kits and software on the network at no charge.
Commercial developers can market their products through the SMART Software Accreditation Program, which allows companies to use industry-recognized SMART logos and promote accredited software through SMART. Commercial members can apply for SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard Enabled or SMART Board interactive whiteboard Select accreditation status for multimedia content and software applications that take advantage of software development kits and Notebook Software Gallery Packager.
