Position to strengthen regional customer and reseller support
CALGARY, Alberta --- May 12, 2008 --- SMART Technologies announces the appointment of Christopher Chong to the position of director, Asia-Pacific. The appointment reflects the company’s commitment to provide more local support for customers and resellers in the region. In this newly created position, Chong will be in charge of the sales, marketing and services functions for SMART products, and overseeing interactions with customers in 11 countries, including China, Australia, South Korea and Malaysia. Chong’s mandate is to build a local team that will support SMART’s business in the region. He will be based in Singapore and will report to SMART’s president and COO, Tom Hodson.
Chong holds a bachelor of business administration degree specializing in management information systems and has an extensive background in international business. Since 2006, he has been SMART’s chief representative in China, managing the company’s sales support and marketing office in Shanghai. Previously, he held senior positions with a number of technology firms in the Asia-Pacific region. Chong’s appointment comes at a time when SMART is experiencing significant growth across the region as well as globally.
“SMART has a sustained track record of outstanding growth and customer satisfaction in the Asia-Pacific region,” says Chong. “In this new position, I’m looking forward to profitably driving that growth even further and building on SMART’s leadership position.”
“Chris has a strong understanding of customers and their needs, having worked for more than a decade in increasingly responsible roles at the regional and national level,” says Tom Hodson, SMART’s president and COO. “He builds strong relationships with resellers and is able to create and execute plans that effectively deliver results for SMART and its customers.”
