Two users can simultaneously touch or write on a SMART Board interactive whiteboard
WASHINGTON, DC --- June 29, 2009 --- SMART Technologies announces the SMART Board™ SBD600 series interactive whiteboard with dual touch, which enables two users to touch or write on the board’s surface simultaneously. This addition to the SMART Board family of interactive whiteboards enhances small-group interaction by enabling two users to work together at an interactive whiteboard. Students and teachers have the option of using their finger or a pen to brainstorm, problem-solve, explore ideas and engage with lesson materials while working within award-winning SMART Notebook software. SMART Board SBD600 series interactive whiteboards combine dual-touch collaboration with the look, feel and functionality of standard 600 series interactive whiteboards.
Dual-user mode is specific to SMART Notebook, one of the world’s most popular collaborative learning applications. Single-user mode is the default setting. Selecting an icon in SMART Notebook divides the screen in two, creating a personal workspace for each user to produce and share work, collaborate and problem-solve. For example, two students can solve the same problem in two different ways, race to complete the same problem or work together to solve different parts of the same problem. Users can return to single-user mode by selecting an icon, which combines all work in a single file. Dual-user lessons and resources will be available when the first SMART Board SBD600 series interactive whiteboards begin shipping in the fall of 2009. The SBD600 series will be available in three sizes, the standard (4:3 aspect ratio) 77" (195 cm) SBD680 and the widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio) 87" (221 cm) SBD685. It is also available on all 600i and 600ix interactive whiteboard systems.
“SMART Board SBD600 series interactive whiteboards enable more students to become actively involved in lesson activities at the same time and increases small-group interaction and collaboration,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “Increasing student engagement is one of the best ways to ensure improved learning outcomes.”
