SMART Learning Marketplace content correlated to Texas curriculum

World’s largest education content repository searchable by state standards

CALGARY, Alberta --- July 1, 2008 --- SMART Technologies announces the correlation of SMART Learning Marketplace content to Texas curriculum standards. The correlation will be ready in time for the start of the August 2008 school year. Texas teachers will be able to search more than one million pieces of digital content currently available on the site and quickly find resources correlated to state standards. The Texas curriculum correlation is the first of many planned correlations, with California, Florida and Arizona to follow. The SMART Learning Marketplace is a Web-based subscription service that provides access to the world’s largest online repository of copyright-cleared education content.

The SMART Learning Marketplace, powered by the Global Grid for Learning, is the result of an alliance between SMART and Cambridge University Press, the oldest printer and publisher in the world. The Marketplace is made up of more than one million professionally developed, copyright-cleared learning resources, including video clips, audio files, images and manipulatives that teachers can easily download and incorporate into lessons. The content comes from the world’s top education publishers, technology and software educators, and museums, including the Bridgeman Art Library, Scran, Encyclopedia Britannica, Reuters and Cambridge University Press. Since the service was launched eight months ago, more than 8,000 teachers around the world have subscribed.

“I regularly use the SMART Learning Marketplace to search for pictures and video clips to add to my lesson activities and make them more engaging,” says Jeri Kitner, a teacher technologist at Walnut Hill Elementary School in Dallas, Texas. “I like that we can search directly from SMART Notebook software. It makes integrating content into lesson plans very easy.”

“Texas teachers have identified the need for high-quality digital content that is correlated to curriculum standards, and SMART is one of the first companies in the world to respond to their requests,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s CEO. “Now Texas teachers are able to browse the SMART Learning Marketplace with confidence, knowing the material they find meets state standards.”
