SMART CEO honored by Bishop’s University

Nancy Knowlton inducted into RBC Wall of Distinction for athletic contribution

CALGARY, Alberta --- January 08, 2009 --- SMART Technologies announces that the Bishop’s University Department of Athletics has added company co-founder and CEO Nancy Knowlton to the RBC Wall of Distinction. The annual distinction recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the Bishop’s University athletic program through athletic participation and contribution as an athlete or through outstanding services to athletics. Knowlton was honored for her many years as a member of the university’s basketball team along with her provincial and national contributions to the sport.

During her university career, Knowlton was a highly recognized athlete and a cornerstone of the Gaiters’ Women’s Basketball team. She was named the Bishop’s University Female Athlete of the Year in 1973–1974, and earned the team’s Most Valuable Player distinction four times. Knowlton was the highest-scoring player in the Quebec University Athletic Association in both 1972 and 1973. As a member of the provincial team, she won a silver medal for Quebec at the Canada Winter Games in 1975. That same year, Knowlton also toured China as a member of the Canadian National Women’s Basketball team. Knowlton’s dedication and leadership has previously been recognized by the Gaiters’ Women’s Basketball team, which named an award in her honor. Each year, the team awards the Nancy Knowlton Team Award to the player who demonstrates outstanding leadership and dedication.

“Being recognized by the Bishop’s University Department of Athletics is very rewarding,” says Nancy Knowlton. “The effort, dedication and teamwork skills I learned playing senior-level basketball are values we work and live by here at SMART.”
