Put the world at their fingertips

Touch gestures enable students to interact with high-definition content in new and exciting ways, giving them a deeper, more interactive learning experience. Students can use simple and intuitive multitouch gestures, such as toss, rotate and zoom, or use the navigational gestures available with SMART Notebook 10.7 collaborative learning software or later. Touch gestures can also be used with multitouch operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows 7 or Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

Experience presence detection

Starting in Fall 2012, the 8000 series will include presence detection – a new feature that automatically turns the flat panel on when motion is detected and off after an extended period of inactivity. Presence detection not only offers a more intuitive and fluid experience for teachers and students, it also conserves power and extends display life. This feature will be available with the release of the new 55" (140 cm) 8055i.

Presence detection

Sensors detect and automatically respond to user movements, so the interactive flat panel turns on and stays in active mode when people are near and turns off when no movement is detected. (Coming Fall, 2012)

Commercial-grade, touch-enabled display

The 8000 series is a commercial-grade high-definition display powered by SMART’s proprietary DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology, delivering a superior touch experience and bright, crisp 1080p images that make it easy to engage students in course material.

Elegant, sophisticated design

The professional design and crisp, eye-catching images of the 8070i make it ideal for any learning environment.

Multitouch interface

Two students can simultaneously write, perform mouse functions, erase and manipulate objects on the display – no special tools are required.

Freestyle interaction

The 8000 series enables two people to instantly start working together without having to switch into a separate multiuser mode or work in a confined area. And users can individually complete actions, like writing in digital ink or moving objects with their fingers. It’s perfect for collaborative learning.

Touch gestures

Use simple, intuitive hand and finger gestures to work with content, including one- and two-finger navigational gestures – such as panning and flicking pages – and object gestures, like zoom, toss and rotate. The 8000 series also supports touch gestures found in Microsoft Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard operating systems.

Object awareness

The 8000 series uses DViT technology to identify when you switch between your finger, a pen or an eraser. You can also write with a pen, erase with a palm and move objects with your finger, without having to press buttons, access on-screen menus or replace tools in the Pen Tray.

Accessible collaboration feature

All the tools you need to interact are conveniently located at the front of the display. You can easily access the pens, eraser and color selection buttons, launch the On-Screen Keyboard and use the right-click and help functions. You can also connect USB devices, switch between them and control volume easily.

SMART Ink

Just pick up a pen and start writing. SMART Ink smoothes out your handwriting to improve legibility. You can write notes over any lesson and save them as a SMART Notebook file. You can also turn handwritten notes into text objects that you can manipulate.

Magnetic pens

The 8000 series is equipped with two pens that magnetically attach to the bezel. Its control buttons enable you to select the color of ink, right-click and launch the On-Screen Keyboard and help functions.

Durable surface

The 8000 series features a hardened glass display.
