Firmware version 1.2 for systems with an appliance

This firmware update is for the following SMART products:

  • SMART Board 800i5e-SMP and 800ixe-SMP interactive whiteboard systems 
  • SMART Board 8070ie-SMP and 8055ie-SMP interactive flat panels

 IMPORTANT: This firmware is for appliances that have a 16 GB hard drive. Do not install this firmware if your appliance has an 8 GB hard drive. Instead contact your authorized SMART reseller for a hard drive replacement.

To check the firmware version number on an interactive whiteboard

  1. Turn on your interactive product.

  2. Press the information button on the appliance control panel.

  3. Select System > About in the appliance's user interface to view the firmware version number.

  4. If the firmware version is earlier than 1.2.9.0, follow the steps below to update the firmware. 

To check the firmware version number on an interactive flat panel

  1. Turn on your interactive product.

  2. Select System > Settings in the user interface.

  3. Log into the system using the administrator password.

  4. Press the About tab.

  5. Look in the System Information section for the Appliance heading.

  6. If the firmware version is earlier than 1.2.9.0, follow the steps below to update the firmware.

To update the appliance firmware

  1. Download the WIM file from this page, and then save it to a USB drive. 

  2. Connect the USB drive to your SMART product. If you have a SMART Board 800ie interactive whiteboard system, connect the USB drive to the appliance control panel on the left side of the pen tray.

    OR

    If you have a SMART Board 8070i interactive flat panel, connect the USB drive to one of the three USB receptacles on the appliance behind the right side of your interactive flat panel. Don't use the single USB receptacle on the left side of your interactive flat panel.

  3. Select System > Settings on the SMART Business toolbar.

    The logon screen appears.

  4. Type your administrator password, and then press Log On.

    The Configuration Setting menu appears.

  5. Press the Administration tab, and then select the Firmware Update tool.

  6. Browse to and select the WIM file on the USB drive.

  7. Press Open, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: You can update appliance firmware remotely. Refer to the instructions in SMART Board 800i5e-SMP interactive whiteboard system with appliance configuration and user's guide.

This BIOS update resolves the issue that causes a blue screen to appear on interactive whiteboards and a black screen to appear on interactive flat panels when the appliance is turning on. This issue typically occurs if there's a loss of power or if the appliance control panel's power button was used to turn off your interactive whiteboard while a laptop was the active input.

 IMPORTANT:  You will need a formatted USB drive with 1 MB free space to complete this installation. Instructions for formatting your USB drive are included in the following procedure.

To format the USB drive

  1. Connect an empty USB drive to a computer with a Windows XP operating system or newer.

  2. In Windows Explorer, right-click the USB drive, and then select Format.

  3. Under File System, select FAT32.

  4. Click Start.

    The USB drive formats.

  5. Press the Download button below.

  6. Download the latest BIOS file to your USB drive.

To update the BIOS

  1. Connect the USB drive and a keyboard to the appliance.

     IMPORTANT: If the appliance is not connected to an interactive flat panel or an interactive whiteboard, connect a monitor and a power cable to the appliance.

  2. Turn on the appliance.

  3. Press F2.
    The main menu appears on the DOS screen.

     NOTE: If your appliance is part of a projector system, press F2 for 10 seconds while the projector warms up.

  4. Select Tools > ASUS EZ Flash 2.

    The Start ASUS EZ Flash 2 Utility? dialog box appears.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Select the BIOS file you downloaded from the SMART website and press ENTER.

    The software runs a file check.

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the BIOS update procedure.

    Once the BIOS update is complete, the appliance restarts.

  8. Remove the USB drive.

  9. Turn off the appliance and disconnect any cables you connected in step 1.
