SMART introduces entry-level SMART Board interactive whiteboard

CALGARY, Alberta -- December 14, 2010 --- SMART Technologies (NASDAQ: SMT, TSX: SMA) announces the SMART Board 400 series interactive whiteboard, SMART’s new line of entry-level interactive whiteboards and interactive whiteboard systems. The 400 series extends the company’s interactive whiteboard product line, which includes the SMART Board 600 series interactive whiteboard and the new SMART Board 800 series interactive whiteboard. Using SMART’s patented DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology, the 400 series offers a rich user experience, recognizing both pen and finger inputs, and enabling teachers and students to easily interact with digital content. The series comprises the SMART Board 480 interactive whiteboard, the SMART Board 480iv interactive whiteboard system with short-throw SMART V25 projector, and the SMART Board 480iv-A interactive whiteboard system with SMART V25 projector and integrated speakers. All three products will be available in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Asia Pacific, Latin America and Mexico in January 2011.

Italian province of Trento continues to install SMART products

SMART names first Mexican Showcase School

Michigan school district chooses SMART over competitors

CALGARY, Alberta – August 26, 2010 – SMART Technologies announces that Chippewa Valley Schools (CVS) in Macomb County, Michigan, is introducing SMART products to classrooms throughout the district. Over the next 12 months, CVS will be installing nearly 900 SMART Board interactive whiteboards, 900 SMART Document Cameras, 200 SMART Response interactive response systems and 100 SMART Slate wireless slates. The extensive installation is the result of a US$89 million bond passed in February 2010 for capital projects, one-third of which was devoted to technology. Introducing the SMART Ecosystem Network

SMART Technologies prices initial public offering

CALGARY, ALBERTA — July 14, 2010 — SMART Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: SMT; TSX: SMA), a global provider of interactive whiteboards, today announced the pricing of the initial public offering of 38,830,000 of its Class A Subordinate Voting Shares at a price to the public of US$ 17.00 per share, which reflects an increase of 10% from the anticipated number of shares being offered. The shares will begin trading on July 15, 2010, on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the ticker symbol “SMT,” and on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “SMA.” SMART Technologies is offering 8,800,000 Class A Subordinate Voting Shares and selling shareholders are offering 30,030,000 Class A Subordinate Voting Shares. In addition, the selling shareholders have granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 5,824,500 additional Class A Subordinate Voting Shares at the initial public offering price to cover over-allotments, if any.

SMART appoints two new members to its board of directors

CALGARY, Alberta --- July 14, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces the appointment of Michael J. Mueller and Robert C. Hagerty to its board of directors. Both appointments coincide with the company’s initial public offering. Mr. Mueller retired from the audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2007 as the Global Leader of PwC's Private Company Services/Middle Market Practice. From his appointment as Partner in 1979 until 2007, Mr. Mueller served PwC in various capacities, including Managing Partner, National Managing Partner and as a member of PwC's Global Markets Council, Global Advisory Leadership Team and Global Audit Leadership Team. He currently serves on the board of directors of Hydro One Inc., an electricity transmission and distribution company in Ontario, Canada. Mr. Mueller is a chartered accountant and a chartered business valuator. Mr. Hagerty served Polycom Inc. in various executive capacities from 1997 to 2010, including Chairman, Director, CEO and President, and he has served as an advisor since May 2010. Prior to joining Polycom, Mr. Hagerty served as President of Stylus Assets and has held several key executive management positions with Logitech, Inc., Conner Peripherals, Signal Corporation and Digital Equipment Corporation. Mr. Hagerty served on the board of Palm, Inc. in various capacities from 2005 to 2010, including Lead Independent Director, Chairman of the Governance and Nominating Committee and Audit Committee member.

SMART introduces next-generation SMART Board™ 600i

CALGARY, Alberta --- June 28, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces the fourth-generation SMART Board 600i series interactive whiteboard system. Available in both standard and widescreen formats, the latest generation of the 600i system features an improved and easy-to-use extended control panel (ECP) and a fully integrated short-throw projector that is 3D-ready and has a longer lamp life. The newly designed ECP is mounted to the interactive whiteboard bezel, not to the wall, making it aesthetically pleasing and easier to install. The new 600i series offers two screen formats – standard (4:3 aspect ratio) and widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio). The mechanical boom uses a hydraulic system to collapse gently under strain to protect both the interactive whiteboard surface and projector from damage. The new SMART Board 600i series interactive whiteboard system is expected to begin shipping in September 2010, with no increase in price over the third-generation series.

New SMART Document Camera 330 is mixed reality ready

DENVER, Colorado --- June 28, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces the SMART Document Camera 330, the first document camera designed for education that is mixed reality ready. Mixed reality, a relatively new technology, enables the display of enriched 2D and 3D content using physical objects bearing digital markers that the SMART Document Camera 330 can read. For example, a document camera reading a flash card bearing a digital marker may show a 3D image of the earth’s layers. The SMART Document Camera displays mixed reality content onto a SMART Board interactive whiteboard. Users can then view and interact with the content, which may include graphics, text, video and audio. The document camera also integrates fully with SMART Notebook collaborative learning software. Without interrupting the flow of a lesson, teachers will be able to show enriched live images of 2D or 3D content, manipulate captured images from within their SMART Notebook lesson activity and then save images to SMART Notebook software’s Gallery for later use and review. Teachers and students can also use digital ink to write over images directly within a SMART Notebook page, keeping students engaged and focused on the content at hand. The SMART Document Camera 330 begins shipping globally at the end of June 2010.

SMART and Scholastic to develop multitouch educational content

DENVER, Colorado --- June 28, 2010 --- SMART Technologies and Scholastic UK announce plans to codevelop a multitouch application for the SMART Table interactive learning center based on Scholastic UK’s innovative multimouse software line, Story Stage. This initiative marks the first time a global education publishing company will create an application for the SMART Table. SMART GoWire enhances meeting room collaboration

LAS VEGAS, Nevada --- June 10, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces that SMART Meeting Pro software is now available on the SMART GoWire auto-launch cable (GW-MP). SMART Board enhances teaching and learning in Jordan

CALGARY, Alberta --- June 7, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces that a study by the Jordan Education Initiative (JEI) has found that 91 percent of students report they are more interested in learning when a SMART Board interactive whiteboard is used in the classroom. The study, SMART Interactive White Board Utilization in Al-Shifaa Bint Ouf School, published in March 2010, focuses on the impact of interactive whiteboard use on the engagement of grade eight and nine math and science students at Al-Shifaa Bent Ouf Secondary School in Amman, Jordan. According to the JEI study, over 90 percent of students report being more enthusiastic, positive and interested in learning when lessons are supported by the interactive whiteboard, while 86 percent of students agree that using the interactive whiteboard motivates them to participate in lessons. The study indicates that using SMART Board interactive whiteboards in classrooms enhances teaching and learning, effectively engages students and improves learning outcomes.

Miramichi named SMART showcase community

CALGARY, Alberta – June 1, 2010 – SMART Technologies announces that the city of Miramichi, New Brunswick, has been recognized as a SMART Showcase Community. Since Miramichi organizations began introducing SMART products to the community in November 2008, local businesses, government and nonprofit organizations have witnessed increased customer engagement and interest. Top 25 district continues to choose SMART

CALGARY, Alberta – May 25, 2010 – SMART Technologies announces that Pinellas County Schools (PCS) in Largo, Florida, is installing 300 SMART Board interactive whiteboards in classrooms throughout the district. PCS has approximately 2,000 SMART Board interactive whiteboards installed to date, which were paid for through fundraising initiatives, external community grants, construction funds and Title I funds. SMART assembly facility awarded ISO 14001:2004 certification

OTTAWA , Ontario --- May 4, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces that, in early 2010, its assembly facility in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, received ISO 14001:2004 certification, an international benchmark of environmental management. Located in the Kanata district of Ottawa, the facility is SMART’s main assembly and distribution center. ISO 14001 is a global standard for an effective environmental management system (EMS). Adhering to this standard enables an organization to identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, products and services, to continually improve its environmental performance, and to implement a systematic approach to setting and achieving environmental objectives. Federal State of Hamburg chooses SMART

CALGARY, Alberta --- April 27, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces that the Federal State of Hamburg, Germany, has chosen SMART Board interactive whiteboards as one of the preferred education solutions for its schools. New SMART Document Camera makes content display even easier

CALGARY, Alberta --- April 23, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces the next generation SMART Document Camera. Louisiana school district creates SMART classrooms

CALGARY, Alberta --- April 12, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces that DeSoto Parish School System (DPSS) in Mansfield, Louisiana, is equipping its classrooms with SMART Board™ 680i3 interactive whiteboard systems and other SMART products. SMART Response VE designed for Internet-enabled mobile devices

CALGARY, Alberta --- March 16, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces SMART Response VE interactive response system, a browser-based assessment tool in the growing SMART Response product line. New York school district chooses SMART

NEW YORK, NY --- March 5, 2010 --- SMART Technologies announces that the Elmont Union Free School District (EUFSD) in Elmont, New York, has standardized on SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards. SMART leads 2009 global interactive whiteboard product category

According to Futuresource Consulting, an independent global research company that has tracked interactive whiteboard sales for more than nine years, SMART’s share for all of 2009 was more than twice its nearest competitor.* SMART sold just over 360,000 SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards in 2009, a record yearly total for the company and an increase of more than 60,000 interactive whiteboard sales versus the previous record established in 2008. Sales of SMART Board interactive whiteboards continued to be strong in the United States, where the company sold nearly 200,000 interactive whiteboards in 2009 and attained a 60.9 percent product category share. In major geographies around the world, SMART’s category share also remained strong. SMART was the leading interactive whiteboard provider in the Americas (North America, Latin America and South America) with a 61.8 percent category share, in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) with a 41.6 percent share and in Asia-Pacific with a 23.3 percent share. New SMART Response PE enhances growing product line

New features added to SMART Notebook software
