TEA program application

TEA applicants must be authorized representatives of an existing award program or an organization that is seeking sponsorship from TEA. The TEA program does not administer an application and/or selection process for individual educators. If you are an educator who has received a recognition award, your award program coordinator can submit an application on your behalf to TEA. We encourage all outstanding teachers and administrators to apply for educator recognition programs within their own community. For more information, see program eligibility.

How to apply

TEA applications must include the following information:

  • A cover letter including the following:
    • Applicant’s first and last name, title, e-mail address, business telephone and fax numbers
    • Organization or institution’s name, department, mailing address and website
    • Title of the teacher recognition program
    • Signature of authorized applicant
  • Brief background information for the teacher recognition program, including the following:
    • A description of the application and selection process, including key dates
    • The number of nominees/applicants at each level who are selected and recognized
    • The selection criteria used to assess nominees/applicants
    • The date the award is announced and details of any recognition events or ceremonies to be held in the recipient’s honor
    • The length of the term for the award recipient (including the commencement and completion dates)
    • Describe the winning teacher’s responsibilities and indicate if a sabbatical from the recipient’s current role is required or offered
    • Details about the award package provided to the recognized recipient. Specify what, if any, gifts are awarded and for how long (e.g., a computer loaned for the term).
    • A list of the major sponsors of the award program
    • The nomination package and a program from previously held recognition events (optional)

Application closing date

The term of the TEA program is concurrent with the academic year (September to August). Applications will be accepted until January 31 for programs whose recipients will be named during the next academic year. Applications will be evaluated as they are received and applicants will be notified within 30 days of receipt.
