What to expect
The SMART Certified Lesson Developer program gives you the opportunity to learn how to use SMART Notebook™ collaborative learning software and other SMART products to create lessons that improve learning results. During the two-day session, and as you complete a variety of other self-paced courses, you’ll:
- Become confident using SMART Notebook software to create outstanding classroom lessons
- Collaborate with peers to assess and improve new and existing lessons according to a robust set of best practice guidelines
- Have ample time to create lessons for your subject area and grade level under the guidance of a SMART training specialist
How you'll qualify
To complete the core component of the program, participants must take the following full-day, face-to-face courses (or their equivalent):
- SMART Notebook level 1 training
- Lesson Development Workshop (Beginner and Intermediate sessions)
- SMART Response Training OR SMART Table Training
After completing the core courses, participants must complete the following eight courses from the following Teaching-Centered e-Lessons available on the SMART Learning Space:
- Creating Active Learning Opportunities
- Using Technology to Increase Your Teaching Efficiency
- Focusing Student Attention in an Inclusive Classroom
- Using Collaborative Activities to Guide Independent Work
- Reinforcing Lessons Using Cooperative Learning Activities
- Enhancing Student-Centered Instruction
- Investigating a Topic Through Storytelling
- Using Diagnostic Assessments to Improve Your Teaching
Learners must also create and submit three complete SMART Notebook lesson files. These lessons will be evaluated for compliance with best practices, and then they will be posted on the SMART Exchange website.
Who should seek certification?
- This session is designed for K–12 educators. Adult educators are also welcome to attend.
- New and experienced users of SMART Notebook software and the SMART Board interactive whiteboard
- Experienced SMART Notebook users can challenge the beginner material by completing an online assessment. Passing the challenge assessment will allow learners to register for the intermediate session without completing the beginner session.
