Many students, teachers and professionals across the world are familiar with SMART, but did you know we’re a Canadian company? Our hometown is a big part of our identity, so we are incredibly proud to announce its selection as the Best Canadian Company award winner in the inaugural Excellence in Equity Awards program!

The awards, presented by the American Consortium for Equity in Education celebrate high-impact work across K-12 education and enhance the discussion around educational equity. SMART was among a competitive crowd of schools, educators and industry leaders who were nominated across over a dozen categories. After the judges’ review, the winning nominees were selected based on outstanding achievement in supporting equitable opportunity and outcomes for all educators and learners.

We’re thrilled to be recognized for this award, and how our products - including the SMART Board 6000S Series as well as Lumio support access and equity for students. Discover more about how Lumio support Accessibility in this blog post: Lumio Gets an ‘A’ for accessibility. Accessibility and inclusion are incredibly important to us, and of course to educators everywhere. We’re consistently adding new features and functionality with accessibility in mind, and have some exciting new things coming soon.

Katie Novak and Kris Astle, Education Strategists with SMART Technologies, suggest that the right classroom technology can help to make classrooms more equitable. In this recent podcast episode with the American Consortium for Equity in Education, Kris and Katie speak on the ways educators can use EdTech to support their teacher workflows, increase student engagement and better student outcomes.

Though our company was born and is still based in Calgary, Alberta, we work hard to deliver equitable solutions to every part of the world. In fact, over the last couple of years, we’ve highlighted educators and schools in places including the U.S., Canada, England and Australia as part of our #ConnectionsThatMatter initiative. From solving real world problems in Florida to an inclusive sensory room for special needs students in England to supporting a rural Appalachian Virginia community in making student wellness a priority, we’ve shown how the work we do reverberates in impactful ways - in ways we never thought possible when SMART was founded back in 1987.

Thank you to all of our employees, partners and customers - part, current and future - who have helped make us the best Canadian company dedicated to educational equity!
