From the first day, it was clear that distance didn't matter. “This week has shown the real power of professional collaboration across continents — when teachers unite with a shared purpose, geography becomes irrelevant,” one leader reflected.
Collaboration opens doors to new learning
Keelham Primary School and Delta Waters first established their classroom connections in 2023 thanks to the incredible vision of Elementary Technologies. What began as a way to share resources and learnings evolved into opportunities for education leaders to observe primary classroom practices firsthand, sparking reflection, dialogue, and planning, and deepening understanding across both schools.
Joint professional development sessions allowed UK leaders to share expertise while learning from Delta Waters' approach to teaching and learning. Together, they explored innovative ways to enhance pedagogy, strengthen curriculum, and inspire classroom practice. The week reached a high point when Delta Waters received the SMART Exemplary School Award, the first in Africa. "Presenting the award was a genuine honor—their pride and joy spoke volumes," shared a visiting leader.
A meeting with the Ministry of Education confirmed the program's wider impact, recognizing the partnership as a model for district-wide development. With all five UK schools committed to continuing exchange visits, aligned curriculum work, and expanded live lessons, the next chapter of this partnership was already taking shape.
Turning classrooms into a global stage
TTechnology brought this partnership to life in extraordinary ways. Teachers from the UK and Botswana planned lessons together using Lumio, designing interactive, meaningful sessions before even meeting in person. By the time the leaders arrived, pupils and staff felt like partners, not strangers.
Across science, geography, history, and mathematics, students collaborated in real time. Lessons included Shout It Out, KWLQ charts, graphic organizers, and games like Match 'Em Up and Team Quiz, creating experiences that were both engaging and accessible. One participant noted, "Seeing Lumio bring classrooms together across continents was remarkable. One global classroom connected through curiosity and shared learning."
The installation of The SMART Board MX series displays and a Nureva sound system at Delta Waters amplified the experience, while Teams continued to support planning and communication. Teachers harnessed the technology to combine creativity, interaction, and real-time feedback, transforming lessons on both sides of the partnership
Celebrating curiosity and culture together
The week culminated in a cultural assembly connecting 2,267 students. Students shared performances, reflections, and insights, celebrating curiosity, creativity, and global citizenship. "Connecting more than 2,200 students across the globe in one assembly was extraordinary. It was a true celebration of unity and global citizenship," a teacher remarked.
The visit left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Leaders and staff were struck by the warmth, pride, and value placed on education at Delta Waters. Experiencing the Botswana education system firsthand was "inspiring and invaluable. It broadened perspectives in ways we never expected."
As the trip concluded, one reflection captured the sentiment of the entire partnership:
"Thank you to Delta Waters for your generosity of spirit and friendship. I cannot wait for the next chapter of this partnership."
